Aussie Dog Treats vs. Imported Crap
Why Local is Better for Your Pup
You wouldn’t feed yourself dodgy, low-quality junk from who-knows-where, so why the hell would you do it to your dog? Not all imported treats are bad, but let’s be real, some of them are seriously sketchy.
Strict Aussie Standards
Australia has some of the highest food and safety standards in the world. When it comes to pet treats, we don’t mess around. Meat and produce have to meet strict regulations and companies have to actually prove their products are safe.
Meanwhile, imported treats? Some of them come from countries where regulations are as flimsy as a wet tissue. Ever heard of those horror stories where dogs got sick from dodgy overseas treats? Yeah, let’s not risk that.
Meat? Or Mystery Meat?
In Australia, pet food manufacturers must use ingredients that meet strict safety standards. But in some overseas countries? The "meat" in your dog’s treats could be from just about anything. Seriously.
In the worst cases, some imported treats have been found to contain:
Chemicals and preservatives banned in human food
Rendered mystery meats that don’t even specify what animal they came from
Yeah, no thanks.
Preservatives and Artificial Crap Galore
Because imported treats have to survive long shipping times, they’re often loaded with preservatives to stop them from rotting before they hit store shelves. Some of the dodgy chemicals you might find in overseas treats include:
BHA & BHT – Banned in some countries for being linked to cancer, but still used in some pet treats overseas.
Propylene Glycol – A chemical cousin to antifreeze (yes, the stuff that can kill dogs), used in some overseas treats to maintain moisture.
Ethoxyquin – A preservative banned in human food due to health risks, but still found in pet food from some countries.
Supporting Local Farmers and Businesses
When you buy Aussie-made treats, you’re not just giving your dog the best, you’re supporting local farmers, small businesses, and ethical meat production.
Australian Treats Are Safer
If you love your dog (which I know you do, because you’re reading this), stick with Aussie-made treats. They’re safer, healthier, fresher and you actually know what’s in them. Plus, supporting local means giving a big middle finger to dodgy overseas factories that prioritize profits over pets.
So, next time you’re stocking up on treats, check the label. If it ain’t Aussie, it ain’t going in the bowl. Simple as that.
